Endodontic Dentistry

Endodontic dentistry is a strong focus of ours here at the Upper Hunt Club Dental Centre. Turn to us, and you're turning to a dental center South Ottawa residents have been relying on for over 20 years. With our high level of experience and our facility that's equipped with cutting-edge technology, you can feel confident that your visit will be a comfortable one.

This is important because endodontics involve one of the most feared of all dental procedures: root canal therapy. We're here to tell you that it's not as bad as some make it out to be.

The Purpose of Endodontic Dentistry
In the Centre of each tooth is the dental pulp, a soft space containing the tooth's nerves and blood vessels. The nerves reach down to the tooth's roots, and thus they are part of what are called the "root canals." When the pulp becomes damaged through dental trauma or decay, bacteria can develop there and infect the pulp. Removing the infected pulp is the job of ours.

A Dental Center Ottawa Residents Trust
Root canal treatments are only painful when patients wait too long to get them done. That's why at our dental center Ottawa residents are encouraged to visit at the first sign of an infected pulp. Symptoms can include:

• Sensitivity to hold and cold foods and liquids
• Sudden sharp pain in the tooth
• A darkening of the enamel
• Swelling in the surrounding gums

Sometimes, there are no symptoms. Those who have had a tooth repeatedly operated on, though, should know that their chance for infection in that tooth is high and that they should come for an oral exam and digital X-ray.

The treatment is done in a single visit. Besides providing local anesthesia, we offer nitrous oxide sedation for patients with dental phobia or a severe gag reflex. We'll end by filling the cleaned roots with a certain material, and filling the tooth with a permanent filling; you should have a dental crown on the treated tooth to keep it for a life time use.
