Tips For Good Oral Hygiene

Good oral hygiene is an important thing to obtain. There are a few things that you can personally do to improve your over all oral health. Some tips for good oral hygiene are:

• Make sure that you are holding the toothbrush properly
• Brush your teeth gently
• Do not forget to floss Before you brush your teeth
• Take time when it comes to brushing your teeth
• Be sure to get new tooth brushes regularly
• Always rinse after brushing
• Stay away from certain foods and beverages

It is a common mistake for people to hold their toothbrush improperly. Dentists say that you should hold your toothbrush at a 45-degree angle while brushing your teeth. Most people usually brush their teeth with the brush flat against their teeth while making long strokes. While the toothbrush is at 45 degrees you should make short strokes. These short strokes should still clean all areas of the teeth.

The harder you brush the more clean your teeth are, right? Wrong. You should brush your teeth in a gentle fashion. Brushing your teeth hard is actually damaging to your teeth. Too much pressure could eventually ruin your gums, expose your teeth roots, and develop sensitivity problems. Another thing that could help you brush your teeth more gently is purchasing a soft bristled toothbrush.

Flossing is a very important key factor is obtaining good oral hygiene. Flossing covers 35% of tooth surfaces, and brushing covers 65%. It is recommended to floss your teeth at least once a day especially at before going to bed. The plaque and bacteria that gets stuck in between your teeth need to be removed to prevent future cavities.

Make sure that you are not rushing while you brush your teeth. Your teeth are important and deserve some time. The perfect amount of time to brush your teeth for is 2 minutes. If you rush the brushing process you will not be able to clean all surfaces of your teeth.

It does not seem like it would be a big deal, but you need to replace your toothbrush regularly. You should invest in a new toothbrush approximately every 3 months. This means you will go through 4 toothbrushes each year. When the bristles on your toothbrush begin to look worn out that means that it is time for a replacement.

Rinsing after you are done brushing is an important step of the process. Rinsing out your mouth cleans out and left over bacteria or plaque that was removed from your teeth. You can also rinse with mouthwash if you desire. Just move it around your mouth for half a minute and you are done.

To achieve good oral hygiene you should try to avoid any food or beverage that is harmful to your teeth. Some foods that are harmful are sugary, chewy, and hard foods. Coffee, pop, and wine are harmful beverages. Staying away from these things will strengthen your teeth.
